... the only cultural program officially adopted in Kazakhstan is called “Heritage.” Rustam Khalfin, the founding figure of our contemporary art scene, is already over 60. That makes him a perfect candidate for “Cultural Heritage,” unless, of course, he’s scooped up by some “Initiative”— be it American, Russian, or German, it no longer matters. We are rapidly losing our cultural identity, one that was built through the persistent efforts of our contemporaries over the past fifteen years…
