The idea behind the [Kyzyl Tractor] group is to reflect on and deconstruct the stereotypical image of the Eastern mystic through contemporary art: in performances, installations, and video works.
“We are savages, and all these wonders of civilization are, for us dervishes, a new world. A world that is beautiful, alluring, and unknown. In general, this worship of all things Western has always stirred mixed feelings in me. On the one hand — approval; on the other — shame. Shame that, while receiving from the world, we are unable to repay it on equal terms. Which means we’re borrowing. But who will repay the debt if we’re content with this state of things?” says Said. That’s how the piece «Молитва» (“Prayer”) was born — depicting a dervish whose prayer rug is replaced by the American flag.
