A self-assured person doesn’t try to “look respectable”; he’s not afflicted by that particular Asian sickness. Besides, we’re dealing with far more serious things than others are. Although, to be honest, it’s hard to say what exactly we’re doing right now. There are no clear criteria.
I constantly watch the news, it’s better than indulging in senile meditation and other such intellectual nonsense. I live in the here and now.
If we’re talking in “respectable” terms, I’ve shown my projects at the biggest exhibitions, ones most of our artists couldn’t even dream of. It wasn’t some free ride where the standards are lowered just because you’re from the East. Everything was taken completely seriously: no discounts for being Asian.
